Spa doubles the stakes with just three points at the top

Draper leads Berry into Wednesday’s endurance round, while tight gaps further down the standings give the field plenty to race for.

Spa doubles the stakes with just three points at the top

Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps’ Grand Prix layout hosts Week 12 of RMPT Motorsports’ Oceania GT3 Season 2 on Wednesday, 21 October. The format is one 90-minute endurance race, no heat, and double points, with race time listed as 7:30pm AEST. Weather and track-condition details have not been supplied for the round.

This is a break from the standard practice, qualifying, sprint Heat 1 and Feature programme. At Spa, there is just one race in which to deliver—and the championship arrives with barely anything separating its leading pair.

Three points between Draper and Berry

Jayden J Draper heads the standings on 383 points, with Mathew Berry second on 380. That three-point margin is the headline championship storyline heading into a double-points Wednesday.

Berry brings an Indianapolis Feature victory into race week. He won from fifth on the grid, led all 18 laps and recorded zero incidents in his Ferrari 296 GT3. Combined with fifth in Heat 1, his supplied session scores totalled 48 points.

Draper took third in the Indianapolis heat, but his Feature result was listed as 14th and not classified, with six points recorded. His two session scores totalled 18 points: a 30-point difference against Berry across the round.

The chase extends beyond those two. Mark J Smith sits third on 345 points, 38 behind Draper, after taking second in the Indianapolis heat and fourth in the Feature. Jordan Groom is fourth on 327, another 18 points behind Smith, following his Feature runner-up finish.

Double points add weight to Spa, but they do not make any change of championship order inevitable.

Close contests through the standings

Fifth-placed Adrian Ranieri has 231 points, just five more than Jordan Seers. Seers won Indianapolis Heat 1; Ranieri finished sixth in that race and fifth in the Feature.

Among the drivers listed as PRO-AM in the standings, Dylan J Hunter leads on 193 points. Jordyn Webber follows on 149, with Darryl Coupe only 13 points further back on 136.

Jesse McCaul, on 99 points, also brings a strong recent result: sixth overall and the highest-placed PRO-AM finisher in the Indianapolis Feature.

One race, 90 minutes, double points. Spa has plenty riding on it.
